Kathryn Wilkinson

Kathryn was designated as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) in 2021 and was the manager of a local authority governor support service from March 2013 until March 2022, having worked for the service since 2003 as a senior officer In the role of manager Kathryn had line management responsibility for the deputy manager, two senior governor support officers, a governor support officer and a team of 23 clerks. The service is fully traded and delivers a high-quality clerking service, advice and support and governor training and development to the vast majority of schools and academies in the local authority. Kathryn has also carried out many external reviews of governance across maintained primary and high schools, single academy trusts and multi academy trusts (MATs).

Kathryn has a degree in psychology and a PGCE in maths and special educational needs. She has taught in both primary and secondary schools. Kathryn has been involved in governance since 1993 when she first became a parent governor at her child’s school. Since then, she has been chair at several maintained schools, chair of a special school Interim Executive Board (IEB), vice chair at a further education college and chair of the standards committee at a MAT. Kathryn has also had many years of experience clerking at maintained schools, IEBs, MATs, single academy trusts, a pupil referral unit and a secure children’s centre.
